A Literature Study for Breast-Feeding


Abstract
In third world countries, bottle-feeding is replacing breast-feeding despite warnings by physicians and compains by governments and international health agencies.
Increased awareness of the needs of mothers as they adjust to breast feeding can assist nurses in making relevant predictions and interpretations as a basis for providing optimal nursing care. A working knowledge of how the breasts function in the lactation process can help the nurse with the guidance she gives the new mother when working with motherbaby couple to help them establish or continue breast-feeding, the nurse can use the nursing process to good advantage.
Routine breast care is directed at maintaining cleanliness and adequate breast support necessary for the normal function of the breasts and the comfort of the mother. To facilitate breast-feeding, it is important to discuss nipple care with the new mother.
